Artist: Cecky Ropelewski
Sponsors: Rouse Environmental, Inc. & Mattaponi Canoe and Kayak
About the artist:
Cecky is a local artist whose detailed drawings, paintings and bead work often depict Native American subjects. She made two fish for the Richmond Go Fish project. She and husband Jerry Walker live on the Mattaponi at historic Locust Grove, a farm that has been in the Walker family since before the Jamestown settlement.
Description:
This fish swims through a Native American dream catcher. The face and fins of the shad are painted to resemble leather. The body is covered with feathers. Dream catchers are a legendary Native American object that catch nightmares to protect children from bad dreams and evil spirits.
