Schools of Shad program(s) you’d like to participate in:
______ Grasses in Classes The project includes growing underwater grasses in tanks in the classroom during winter months for planting in the river in May or June. Includes tank set-up, CD presentation materials or the option of a guest speaker/classroom presentation on the importance of underwater grasses in the Chesapeake Bay.
______ Shad grow tank The project includes raising juvenile shad fry in a large aquarium in the classroom and then releasing them into the river. Can include a field trip to the Pamunkey Indian Fish Hatchery.
______ Mad about Shad public arts initiative Students will create artwork depicting shad or the Mattaponi or Pamunkey Rivers) to be displayed in a spring art show during Shadfest this spring.
______ Shadfairs/Shadfest Work with MPRA volunteers and your school system through PTA, Ecology club, media specialist or teachers to hold a school art show/science fair, assembly or school event with river ecology, watersheds and shad as a theme this spring. Winners in each school division will be invited to participate in
Shadfest.
